Pre-Holiday Beauty Prep EB

Pre-Holiday Beauty Prep

If you have a holiday coming up and you’re wondering how you can look your best for all those summer selfies, beach days, and cocktails by the pool, then don’t worry. We have the definitive list of pre-holiday prep steps and when best to do them.

Two weeks before

Get a haircut and top up your colour. You’ll give your hair a whole new lease of life by getting a trim and a touch-up, making it easier to manage on your holidays and look healthier in pictures too. When colouring or getting blonde highlights, it’s a good idea to go a shade or two darker than usual as the sun will naturally lighten your hair. If you colour your hair last minute, there’s a risk that chlorine might damage and affect the still-fresh dye, discolouring it.

Start exfoliating. Exfoliate any areas of skin that are going to be exposed to the sun, including your feet, to leave your skin feeling super soft and nourished. Not only does it remove dead skins cells, but exfoliating helps your moisturisers, serums, and fake tans to work better. Regularly use an exfoliating brush, glove, or body scrub to get glowing skin in the days leading up to your holiday.

Get your eyebrows done. Whether you like to get them waxed, threaded, tweezed, or microbladed, getting your brows shaped the week before you go gives your face a fresh look. You could also consider getting them tinted too, so you don’t need to worry about remembering to bring your eyebrow pencil.

Get lash extensions. In the same way that tinting your brows prevents you from needing to apply brow product, getting lash extensions or tints allows you to forgo the mascara and falsies for the duration of your holiday. This frees up room in your makeup bag and helps you to avoid panda eyes in the pool.

3 days before

Shave or wax. Shaving or waxing your legs and bikini line three days before your holiday gives your skin a chance to calm down before you get to your destination. Just remember to wear loose-fitting and breathable clothing to reduce irritation on the flight, and to bring a travel razor for any touch-ups whilst you're there.

2 days before

Have a fake tan session. Going on holiday with your tan already in place can leave you feeling confident and can stop you from spending too much time in the sun for healthier skin. If you prefer to self-tan, it's best to get it done two days before, so you have time to let the tan settle. Whether you're going for a spray tan or applying it yourself, remember that fake tan doesn't protect against sun damage and you'll still need to regularly use sun cream.

Get a manicure and pedicure. There’s nothing like having perfectly painted toes sinking into the sand and being on display as you sunbathe. To avoid breakage or chipping, opt for gel polish rather than acrylics or standard polish.

The day before

Relax! Sit back, put on a face mask or have a soak in the bath to reduce those pre-travel jitters and get glowing skin. Just remember to get up and check you have everything packed at least once!
