While you're at the beach, enjoying the sun and having a bite to eat is all well and good, but some of us just can't wait to get into the water and have some fun. So, what types of activities does the water have to offer? We at The Range are here to go through a few of them.
Have you ever been interested in trying your hand at finding sea creatures at the beach? When visiting a sandy or shingle beach, bring along a bucket, and you can experience rock pooling. If you want to give rock pooling a try, all you need to do is inspect your surroundings. For example, if you find a rock, peek under it. Failing that, carefully manoeuvre some seaweed and investigate the area. Remember that bucket we mentioned? Place it under some water and take a look inside after pulling it back up. With these simple techniques, you may come across crabs, snails or starfish, just to name a few. This is a great activity for all the curious children out there!
Speaking of children, many adore taking their inflatable to the beach. Inflatables come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, with most featuring charming designs that have tons of character. If you're worried about kids falling in the water, get them some armbands to make swimming easier, and you can even consider goggles to protect their eyes. Of course, that’s not to say only kids enjoy spending time on an inflatable. If floating on your back just isn’t doing it for you, pick up a float, and the rest speaks for itself.
To successfully snorkel, all you really need is a mask and snorkel set and some swimming fins. Once you have your gear on and you’ve made sure it’s all fitting correctly, get into the water, find a nice spot where you won’t bump into anyone, and submerge your head while keeping your breathing tube above water for air. Allow your body to float on the water, carefully using your swimming fins when necessary to guide you in the appropriate directions (the last thing you want is to scare the fish away with your splashing). The key to snorkelling is to remain calm and breathe - deep and slow. This can be such a fascinating and calming experience, so give it a shot at the beach when you can.
We can’t recommend kayaking enough if you want to take your time gliding across the water. Kayaking can be experienced alone or with others, and each kayak is designed to be incredibly comfortable. The plus of kayaking with someone else is you both have to work together to row, making this a fun team activity. Inflation time for kayaks isn’t too long at all, and once you’ve made your way back to shore, deflate it ready to be used on another gorgeous day.
Paddleboarding is a popular, water-based activity that even the kids can enjoy. Easy to pick up, paddleboarding lets you explore the sea near the beach at your leisure. It also makes for a great workout since you’ll be using your entire body. Although paddleboarding isn’t difficult, there’s nothing wrong with wearing some handy grip gloves to make moving around even easier. If you’ve ever been interested in having a go, we recommend a suitable repair kit just in case you have any surprising damages. Some also like to gear up in a wetsuit so they can keep warm, even if they end up taking a dip in the water.
We hope this has given you a few ideas for what you can get up to while at the beach. If anything mentioned here has piqued your interest, feel free to take a good look through our entire Beach and Water Sports departments for a variety of fun-filled accessories.
