King Charles III’s Coronation

The Significance

Although Charles III was named King after the unfortunate death of Queen Elizabeth II, a coronation will take place on Saturday 6th May 2023, wherein the King will be officially crowned, alongside the Queen Consort, Camilla.

The coronation, code-named Operation Golden Orb, is a symbolic religious ceremony which formalises the Monarch’s role as the head of The Church of England, as well as signifying the transfer of title and power.

Celebrations

Although the official Coronation will follow long-standing traditions, there will be a variety of exciting events across the weeken. As announced by Buckingham Palace, there are a number of other celebrations which we can all take part in.

There will be an additional bank holiday across the UK this year on Monday 8th May, where people are being encouraged to partake in volunteering activities within their local communities, as part of the Big Help Out Initiative.

Alongside this, Celebration Big Lunch street parties are also encouraged, in order to celebrate with your community and enjoy this joyous occasion!

Preparing for the Festivities

Celebrating such a huge occasion is so rare, so you’re going to want to prepare in advance. As is tradition for many when such a momentous event rolls around, displaying a Union Jack flag around your home or on your car is a simple, yet great way of showing your patriotism. For the coronation, there will also be unique flags made for this particular celebration and themed balloons so you can be a part of something really special.

Flags aside, you might enjoy making the specially created Coronation Quiche for your Big Lunch celebrations! With a delicious combination of unique flavours, this iconic dish will be perfect to serve to your friends and family. Don't forget to browse our baking department for any essentials you might need.

All the festivities can get tiring, so no one would blame you if you fancied a relaxing cup of tea, but even enjoying a brew can show your support with a mug designed for the occasion!

This is the first coronation since Queen Elizabeth II’s in 1953, so you may never have seen such an event before. The coronation isn’t far away now, so we at The Range truly hope you have a fantastic time this May.
