Guide To Outdoor Christmas Lighting

Anyone who absolutely adores transforming their house during Christmas time and filling it with beautiful, festive decorations knows that outside can often be an extremely underutilized space. Placing a few (or a lot!) of decorations in your front or back gardens will take your Christmas Decorations to a whole new level. Line your front lawn pathway with festive stake lights so you can feel that Christmas spirit as soon as you get home from work or set up some acrylic animals in your back garden and transform it into a real winter woodland. Here at The Range, we sell a whole host of festive lights that are suitable for use outdoors and will help turn your house into the showstopper of the street.

String Lights

Similar to your classic LED string lights, Outdoor String Lights are specifically designed to withstand being left outside in the cold and sometimes rain. Adding some string lights outside as part of your Christmas decorations can add some sweet sparkle that all who pass will be able to appreciate. If you have any trees in your garden, consider wrapping string lights around them to create that classic Christmas tree look. You can also pin them along your windows or around your door, which will help add a magical and super festive vibe for any guests who enter your home.

String LEDs can be found in all sorts of styles, from simple diodes, to bright stars and even wintery icicles. Whatever theme your Christmas décor is following this year, you’re sure to find a festive fairy light that will perfectly complement the aesthetics and colour scheme.

Novelty Statue Lights

For those who really throw themselves into the Christmas joy, novelty lights are the perfect way to go. These large and colourful lights are often shaped from acrylic, allowing for a whole host of weird and wonderful creatures and characters to make your garden their home. Coloured acrylic will look absolutely fantastic once you’ve turned all the lights on, as acrylic takes on a real luminescence when illuminated from within, so the colours will seem extra bright and vibrant. Such vividly glowing statues will seem truly magical when placed in your front garden, bringing to life mythological beings like unicorns or living snowmen.

Ornamental Standing Lights

If you want to keep your décor a little more delicate and elegant, but still want to take advantage of lawn space or a patio, consider setting up an ornamental standing light. A working lantern will bring a traditionally festive vibe perfect for anyone who loves vintage aesthetics and would look fantastic lighting the way down your pathway or at your front door. Don’t have a tree in your garden that you can wrap string lights around? Consider taking Christmas tree lights to the next level with a full light-up tree! Available in all different styles and breeds of trees, these grand decorations will be easy to set up and then take down at the end of the festive season, eliminating the trouble of weaving cables through branches and trying to place them ‘just so’.

Wall Rope Lights & Projectors

Lacking space outside but still want to add some colour for passers-by to see? Wall lights are designed to mount to the wall and create a wonderful display. These neon rope lights can be found in almost any festive design and colour combo possible, including snowmen, Santa’s, snowflakes, and more. Projectors will also create a spectacular lightshow across any vertical surface, creating a mystical snowfall or fireworks display right across your brick walls.

Safety Warning

While shopping for outdoor Christmas lights, make sure you always read the specs on the packaging so you know exactly how to set them up. While the body of these lights are sufficiently water and weatherproofed, some lights for outdoors must still be plugged in indoors, as the transformers may not be watertight. This can be easily worked with; simply place your beautiful lights by a window and feed the wire in through a small opening to be plugged in. This way, you’ll keep yourself and your lights safe, as well as get to appreciate the lovely glow while you’re snuggled up in the warm. Other lights will be battery powered, and these can often be left outside for the season as the battery will be packed in a watertight compartment.
