Getting your bathroom done can be a long and expensive process, but you can get that new bathroom feeling with a few inexpensive tricks and décor ideas. We want to share some of our favourite ways to turn your dingy bathroom into a gorgeous new space for less.
Storage options are one of the best ways to ensure your space remains organised and tranquil. If your storage pieces are starting to look a little worn, are falling apart, don’t inspire a sense of calmness and joy, or just aren’t practical for your home anymore, then it’s probably time to replace them.
Sink console units help to make the most of the unused space here whilst hiding plain, bulky, or ugly sink pedestals for a cleaner, more practical feel. Alternatively, you could remove your standard bathroom mirror and replace it with a mirrored cabinet – perfect for storing face washes, moisturisers, toothpaste, and more.
Don’t be afraid of open-storage options here too. If you’ve got beautiful bubble bath bottles, Epsom salts in a jar, or some quirky accessories, then open or floating shelving is just the thing to keep them on display whilst having them in arm’s reach.
Whether it’s your radiator, walls, or cabinets, painting areas of your bathroom will help to make it feel more vibrant and fresher. Plus, if you go for a dramatic colour change, it can make your space feel brand new. Just remember to buy bathroom-specific paint, which is designed for high-moisture environments, or Anti-Mould and Damp paint.
The grout and sealant around your bath, shower or sink can get quite grimy, but instead of scrubbing it clean, you could substitute both or add to it, in the case of grout. Remove your existing sealant and replace it as per the packaging instructions. You can also add new grout over the top of the old one – try using colourful or dark grout to add interest to your walls.
Adhesive film sheets are perfect for adding new textures and styles to cabinets, walls, and more. You can lay these sticky back plastic sheets over your chosen surface in cool marble, warm wood, and glitter shades to give it a new finish without replacing the entire surface.
Changing your plain white toilet seat is a quick change with impactful results. For a luxurious look, you could choose something with some sparkle, while wood effects create a warm, rustic feel inspired by cottages. There are so many choices for your toilet seat that coordinate with your décor that you’ll be reluctant to return to basic white!
A simple refresh of accessories may be all you need to give your bathroom a lift. You can change your shower curtain and bathmat to create a new base to work with – matching bath towels to the accent colours within the shower curtain, for example, and finishing the space with coordinating essentials like toilet roll holders and pedal bins.
Once you have the main accessories, consider your soap dispensers, toothbrush holders, and other sink-side accessories. Many of these items come in classic designs such as marble (perfectly paired with marble adhesive films!), fashionable terrazzo, and quirky mosaic. Whichever is more to your taste, it will add a lovely touch of style and colour to your bathroom – you might even find a matching light pull!
Finish the space with home décor such as candles for relaxing long soaks in the tub, fake plants for a natural-inspired aesthetic (great if your bathroom is low-light), or traditional nautical ornaments such as anchors.
